To me, the body of work for Suburban Dancing would be incomplete without my interpretation of this album cover.
For me, the image carries memory and connects stages and places in my life. I feel grateful to live in an area that carries sentiments and provides openness and a connection to nature.

Fill You In
Oil on Wood Panel

My son and I traverse the streets of our suburb a lot. We notice birds and their calls, insects in the grass, the slow change of trees, the passing cars. We talk about everyday things, sometimes we want to tell those we miss. This work holds Billie in this moment, while she is still with us.

I took a long exposure photograph of my son in motion. He is crisp and resolved while the surrounding space softens and loosens. His energy leads the work - always fun, high-energy, and drawn to colour. This is who he is right now, and I wanted to capture this.

I took this photograph not long after one our dogs, Ella, passed away. We miss Ella, but we were all excited to take Billie to the beach.

I wanted to paint this shirt. It’s the one I’ve worn through late-night feeds, breakfast making, cuddles, and quiet nights in. It holds a lot of love and it makes me feel home. It felt right to title it after Good Mornin’ by You Am I. I want the warmth of our kitchen, the colours of home, and the feeling of that shirt to come through.

The blue hour is my favourite light. I love how everything is hit with its blue haze but only for a fleeting moment. It symbolises these moments.
Nothing on Your Mind
Gouache on cotton voile, thread
114 cm x 96 cm Framed
Below are works I painted in gouache on cotton voile. Hand stitching creates the linework that ties them together. They are of myself at 3. Spending my current days with my son in a similar way, they were a catalyst to newer works painted in colour on wood.
Suburban Dancing brings together memories from my childhood which come to the fore when experiencing these from the other side as the mum. I find it odd that my husband and I will have these vivid memories of raising our son Art, yet his won't be as strong but they will still be part of who he is.
