My son and I traverse the streets of our suburb a lot. We notice birds and their calls, insects in the grass, the slow change of trees, the passing cars. We talk about everyday things, sometimes we want to tell those we miss. This work holds Billie in this moment, while she is still with us.
Always Fun!

I wanted to capture the energy and movement of my five-year-old son. The title is a reminder that beneath the rush, movement and constant activity he brings to our time together, he is, ultimately, always fun. Compared with an earlier work where I focused on stillness, detail and colour, I deliberately shifted my attention towards the movement of the skateboard and legs. I wanted to embrace blur rather than resolve it, to capture the feeling of being caught up in the moment rather than simply observing it.
The work reflects the way I experience this period of our lives, a present blur, always moving, always fun.
Soldiers

This is the view from our kitchen area. I look out at it countless times a day.
There's a lyric in the song, Soldiers by You Am I, 'their widening the roads.’ Our area is in a period of growth, and there are changes to the landscape and infrastructure but I can look out at this sunset and it brings me back to where I am. The colours and the natural landscape are constantly changing but there’s familiarity in the seasonal colours and transitions.

I took several long exposure photographs while we were walking our dog Billie on the beach. I had done a similar work that was completed with a blue glaze. In this work, I wanted to concentrate on the softer, golden hour tones I saw, bringing more of a lightness to the work.
